Fascinating article. I’ve worked acute care psych and also taught nursing students about Clozapine, agranulocytosis (CLIA) and importance of monitoring for signs (fever, chills, increased heartrate, etc.) It requires immediate attention. I’d like to print this for some of my higher-level students to read.

I'm very glad it may be valuable to your students!

"Dr. Leber also required us to prove clozapine's superiority to chlorpromazine, not just “equivalence,” for FDA approval."

Am I understanding this correctly as "clozapine has to be as effective in chlorpromazine-resistant patients as chlorpromazine is in the full set of patients (both chlorpromazine-resistant and non-chlorpromazine-resistant?)" Or is it clozapine vs chlorpromazine in two identical populations?

This drug is a must have for my teen daughter who was diagnosed a year ago. None of the others worked . Clozapine saved her life.

It took us almost 20 years to get clozapine through all the hurdles until FDA approval. Sure glad we hung in there all that time and could ultimately help your daughter ... and thousands like her. I hope her future is bright.

If they won't prescribe clozapine, is another anti-psychotic plus sarcosine the best answer? I guess sarcosine is not without risks too.
