With H5N1 providing us a gentle reminder these types of health security risks aren’t going away, perhaps there’s opportunity to explore these ideas. USAMRIID / DTRA / DARPA (among other agencies) inspired many us to work in this space. My only point of criticism here is the lack of discussion around our warning system for these risks- that entire thread exists in a parallel universe with similar themes. We place so much emphasis on reactive response and so little on warning and what needs to be done before a pharmaceutical countermeasure is ready at-scale. A National Authority must embrace both sides of that conversation and do so with the confidence of the above mentioned approach.
